Hi Alice, I'm honestly only familiar with your album All the Good Times, which I think is great. I wanted to feature some tracks from it on my podcast, the Should Be Famous Podcast, and wanted to know if that'd be alright.

Do you have a favorite from that album or any special stories about any of the songs? I was thinking of playing (at least part of) Leavin' Home, Follow me Honey, and maybe Stackerlee. I always encourage my listeners to buy the music if they like it.

Love to hear from you,
Clayton Pixton

I'm in Lacey, and a long-time finger-picker. In the 1960s, I learned from Bob Symmons, who attended a troubadour school with Rambling Jack Elliot. They used to travel together in the early 1950s, and you toured with RJElliot, as well.

Alice!Do you remember eating with Eddie Wilson (who ran the Armadillo World HQ in Austin)in about 1975?
He introduced me to you there. I was already hip to your albums at that time and was really excited at the possibility of booking you at my club across the street (called Castle Creek) I'll never forget you and your little Boogie Amp opening several shows.
I am so proud of you still being in the business.
You're even better than I remember in Austin!
Too bad you're so far away from Austin!
Love, Roger Simon

I am so glad you are progressing and ready to try some gigs. I was there in week 1 at the cabin next door to you. I took Laurel's class and the song class with Cara. Have a great Fall and keep progressing and feel the love of those around you. Happy Holidays. Musically yours, Karen Williams in Reno

Michael Millist - Saturday, November 9th, 2013 2:48 PM PST
Hi Alice, My name is Michael Millist and I just wanted to let you know I have been thinking of you. Let me preface this by saying that, your music gives me great comfort, in my times of depression. ( I am bi-polar). I don't know exactly what you're going through at the moment but everything will get better.I find that when things get to me, I ask the Universe for help and usually things work out just fine in time. No, I'm not laying religion on you but I truly believe that we are ALL made of the same stuff and so we can all draw on each others strength to get us through anything. I am sending out so much positive energy for you at the moment. Everything will always work out fine even though it might not be as you had planned. Keep on doing what you do best and thats singing music from the heart..........Fond Regards.Michael Millist

Stephen Moller - Saturday, November 9th, 2013 1:28 PM PST
Dear Alice, Saw you play all those years ago at the Rainbow theatre (Van the man was top of the bill). Great guitar playing (I especially loved the way you played Golden Rocket- marvellous stuff). I can think of few players who fingerpick an electric as well as you do (Pat Simmons of the Doobie Bros. and Peter Lewis of Moby Grape are pretty good too). Having seen you play, I confess that I followed suit and I have been fingerpicking my Stratocaster ever since. It is just such a satisfying way to play.
I do hope that you are feeling a little better after your stroke and get back to some fingerpicking soon enough.
You are an inspiration to so many people, to everyone who listens carefully to your music.
All best Wishes,
Stephen Moller

Patty Marks - Wednesday, November 6th, 2013 12:10 PM PST
Hi Alice. Sorry to hear about the stroke. Get well soon! I play your music on my women's music radio show at KMUN Astoria. Hope to catch you at the Royal on November 13.

Finally! A sound engineer friend took my 7" reel-to-reel tape of John Shine's "Farewell Concert" October 28, 1969 at the Freight and put it on 2 CDs. I'm sending a set to John and have a set for you. Need a mailing address. Hope all is going well for you. Love, Ellie

Don Mitchell - Wednesday, October 9th, 2013 9:48 PM PDT
Alice - I had the good fortune of learning songs from you (and hanging out with you) at PSGW in July. I'm still working on "I'd Do it for You" and "Sugar Babe" but they're coming along nicely. Hope you're feeling much better and will be out sharing your great music with us all again very soon!

Nathan Spooner - Sunday, September 15th, 2013 2:23 PM PDT
Alice, after watching and hearing you at the Freight & Salvage and that time you opened for Eddie Money on San Pablo Avenue, (circa 1972), I wrote you a song. Now with children grown, retired from teaching, my album's number 3 song is an impression of those times. I'l mail the CD next week to the Tumwater, WA. address.
Always a fan,
Nathan Spooner

"Off the Beaten Path" Sun. 9am-noon EST

Off the Beaten Path is a far ranging blend of the oldest folk traditions through to the most current experimentation, an exciting melange of wonderful sounds, stories, ideas, history and culture.

The Folk Odyssey was a pioneering program championing early roots of folk, folk revivalists, classic country,
poetry, flamenco, world beat and other music before these genres and
artists became popular, and mixing everything in a coherent and
accessible format that had a broad audience of hard core folk fans
and fans that were new to these musics, young and old. Off the Beaten
Path continues and broadens the scope of The Folk Odyssey. Altogether we have been on the air 20 years!

Dear Musical Friends,
The Kate Wolf Music Festival is a family friendly event that honors children with a special place of their own on the grounds. We have a lot of great activities for them including music. Over the years I've found many musicians enjoy turning kids on to different kinds of music in an intimate and close setting. To that end we extend an invitation to all the music acts at the festival to come down to the Kid Zone and perform a short set just for the little people.
If you are interested in building a truly loyal fan base who will cherish the time they saw you or sang along with you please reply to this email. We'll schedule you at a time that fits into your time line while you are at the festival. The folks who've done it in the past say it is one of the most enjoyable moments they had at the festival and the kids really respond.
Thanks for your consideration.
Mark Dyken, KidZone Coordinator

With kids and work and a band, its a busy life and so tough to get out to see you. Last time was at the Red Wind; I found myself all glassy eyed over your tone. But as if the line up of immaculately cared for vintage guitars wasn't enough, your smooth and confident style - played through those quivering Fender Twins -embraced the room with what we all crave but often don't realize until you showed us: the Real Deal! You feel great, no one can touch you! I hope you can make it sometime to our humble facility in Yelm. We need you here to grace us with your magic! Our 'Keep the Studio Live' event is happening this Saturday! Lol. So regardless of when you can make it, we'll take good care of you when you do. Keep on keepin' on!!

Ruby And Ted - Monday, May 20th, 2013 11:11 PM PDT

Thank you

Fanwise, I'm about as fanny as I can be. Some nights, while improvising at the piano, I feel your spirit with me. Some nights, when I have truly been grooving, (truly grooving) I wish we could be playing together at the same time. Until then, I just say to myself, "That was something Alice would dig," and go on. Blues is definitely one of the main answers to the big question.
Love, Paul.

Since I've known you since Hector was a pup and God left Chicago, and I've watched your career all these years, the one thing I don't think you've got is recognition. Like, there's still people out there that don't know who you are! Put my name on the Ernie Ball thingie for the Clapton gig, but couldn't figure out how to add a comment. Good luck, girl, you deserve it if anybody does. I mean, if Jerry Murry says you're the greatest thing since sliced bread, that ought to be good enough for anybody. Course, there's people out there that don't know who Jerry Murry is, but pfft! What do they know...

Back in 1972 I lived next to Commander Cody on Miles Avenue in Oakland. I in addition to his music I listened to yours.

There is one song of yours from that time that remains in mind. I believe it is called "I Lose Control." The chorus was: Every time you sigh my name I fall in love again. I lose control....

Anyway, where the heck can I find that song nowadays?

Kerry Glusovich - Friday, November 16th, 2012 7:54 PM PST
Hi Alice,

You knocked me out back in the early 70's; I had the pleasure of reviewing one of your latest album releases while at The Hollywood Reporter. I think it was on Fantasy. I enjoy your work even more now. I could tell you stories about the old Fantasy records and studio in the Mission. I was in some crazy sessions there. Vince Guaraldi had connected me up with Max Weiss. One day we were waiting to do a session; a heavy-set guitarist and singer was cutting "Sunday Morning Comin' Down." I asked Vince who it was and he said it was Gene Vincent. There was always a sense of danger there. Long and dark creatures darting back and forth. My drummer couldn't keep time for the distractions. Max's phone would ring constantly, and he would constantly say, "must be the police." What can I say? It was the 60's.

All the best,

Kerry Glusovich

Hi Alice, I just picked up a copy of Freedom and the track " I've got something for you" just jumped out at me. I'm bi- polar and every now and again a track on a C.D. just resonates with me. That track sure does, mind you I just love the whole album as it's brilliant and obviously made with love, but that track floats my boat. Only one other track has moved me like that and that's by Eric Bibb called "Shingle by shingle" ,worth a listen. Thank you for your wonderful and diverse music..Regards Michael Millist

I work at the Triple Door and our booking manager, Scott Giampino told me that you were the woman I want to talk to. If you haven't heard about the conference, it is celebrating influential women in the music scene and I would like to celebrate you! If you are interested I would love to do an on camera with you. The video will also be put in the 1000 year archive. Here is the link to the conference's website so you can get some more detailed information,
Please let me know if this sounds like something you would want to do. I'll need several hours with you so there is a bit of a time commitment involved.

Thank you,

Allison Hamburg

Is this the same Alice Stewart who played at the hootnannies in Seattle in the early sixties?

Chris Hale - Wednesday, January 4th, 2012 11:19 AM PST
The Laurelthurst shows you playing 6 - 8 on FRIDAY 1/27 and NOT Thursday Jan 26. Thursday 6 - 8 is the Lewie Longmire show. Please check I don't to miss either of you!
"Thursday 6-8pm The Laurelthirst Public House Please join me for the first Laurelthirst gig of 2012. December marked 2 years that I have been playing there once a month. Fabulous place to hear music and have a bite and a brew (or 2)"

Dan Koerner - Wednesday, December 28th, 2011 8:20 PM PST
Thank you, Alice, for sharing so much good music over the years. I've seen you in concert 4 times in Salem Oregon but not lately. I have 4 CDs and have listened to "Can't Find No Heaven" and Crazy With The Blues" dozens of times. My favorite song all time is "I Feel Like Hank Williams Tonight".
You, Leonard Cohen, and Neil Young dominate my playlist. I'm glad you are in my life through your music. You make life more enjoyable. Thanks!

Rick Crone - Sunday, December 25th, 2011 4:45 PM PST
Hey Alice, I drove all the way from Salem to Portland Saturday to hear you play upon the recommendation of a friend and it was worth it. You mentioned some connection with some of the old blues players from the south. Although he's not an old timer, I thought I heard a little bit of Chris Smithers in your music. Have you ever heard of or heard him? He's from the New Orleans area. Again, I really enjoyed your show at the Laurelthirst and hope to hear you again when you are in the area. Do you ever get as far south as Salem or Eugene?--Rick Crone

Tom McFarland - Saturday, December 24th, 2011 12:35 PM PST
Hi Alice, I'm in Seattle but I'm not getting Seattle calendar dates, you are sending me Oregon info. Please send me Seattle and / or all of your concert dates. I would suggest that you send everyone all of your dates, because people travel, and people have friends in far places, so get your name out there!

laura walsh - Friday, December 23rd, 2011 1:14 PM PST
loved hearing you at Tabor coming home..please add this on to your email list for future dates in Portland-ia! thanks for keeping us 'in tune'.

Andy Lowrey - Friday, December 23rd, 2011 8:54 AM PST
Alice, I first heard you play up at (of all places) the Crystal Mtn Ski Area Day Lodge several years ago after a day of skiing. It was just you and your Guitar. Being a lover of the Blues and an amateur strummer I was totally captivated. Normally I don´t pay a lot of attention to the artists that Crystal brings up to the lodge to perform. But when you kicked off your first set I hurt myself doing a double take. I was telling everyone around me to shut up and listen – that this was very special. It was immediately obvious your enormous skill, talent and professionalism. The bad part for me is I´m embarrassed to have to admit that before that day I had not heard of you. Well the penance for my ignorance spreading the word as best I can. Cheers!

Barry Brovan - Saturday, December 10th, 2011 1:52 PM PST
Hi Alice:
Been following your music for many years and enjoy what you do …
Just by chance I thought I would contact you to see if you knew of anyone that is in need of an older blues bass player …
I have tried for several years to get a group together but about the time we are ready to get out something takes a player out. i.e. family, job, etc …
I am retired and live in Skagit County area …
I appreciate your time, Thanks Barry

Hi Alice-remember me!?It's been a long time since I last was in touch, but I know you are busy(still got that ol'Tele lol)?.Was in the USA last month.Spent a week in Nashville.Went to a diner/bar for dinner,& saw 6 performers all doing their songs. All sounded the same,& all looked the same. All except one, who's songs hit you.He played the axe, rather than just strummed. His voice was a cross between Ben Prestage,Seasick Steve & John Hammond.Reminded me of Sam Phillips, who always said"I told Elvis,Johnny,Carl,Jerry Lee etc just two words".Those two words i.e."be different".I thought of you while I heard him perform.Don't know if you can help/use this fellow, but he is someone of worth;of value.Would be a shame & a loss to see him lost in the shuffle.Oh-his name-Casey Jenkins.I've a personal CD he gave me when I spoke to him.I've contact numbers etc if anyone's interested.Alice, you'd like this fellow-he's got it!!.Well, all the very best for now,& keep it going, girl. Are you any nearer to Northampton yet, lol??!!.Very best wishes, still a big UK fan of 40 years,Bob.

I'm at work, and fortnately, I have to work on something that doesn't require a lot of brain power, so I can really concentrate on the music. My headphones are on and you've just finished with "Blues in a Bottle". I am so thankful that there are creative people in the world to life so enjoyable. Thanks for all the joy you've given.

kate estrella - Thursday, January 28th, 2010 4:54 PM PST
Dear Alice, I heard you in the Bay Area many years ago and must have had your album Full Time Woman. I have been singing Cajun Man most of my life never knowing if I have the lyrics right. I am strictly an amateur. Do you have a CD of this record and or would you consider letting me know how to get the lyrics? Chords might help! PS wish I had heard you more but I was living in Mexico until just recently. PS you're great!

Jim Wintner - Monday, December 28th, 2009 10:49 PM PST

I just discovered and thought to search for you. I think I saw you when you were about to be on the Carlin show. I remember you talked about going to NYC. It was a small club in the Bay area. And I remember how impressed I was at the time. I hope I get to see you again.

Good luck!

I SOOOO enjoyed your music and you (and of course your band) this evening at Chris Bryner's house. Steve and Lance are great musicians too. (I told Steve that I had a little crush on him because he's the kind of man I am drawn to--tall, lanky, and with long hair.) I just looked you up and saw just how many folks you've played with. You're mighty awesome, girl. Again, it was a pleasure meeting you and your band.

We LOVE your music, especially your acoustic Blues! Will you be bringing any CDs to sell when you're teaching at the Puget Sound Guitar Workshop in Aug. this year? We'd much rather get them from you than Amazon. We're both taking your class, it's our top choice! Also, what kind of guitar is that dreadnaught acoustic we've seen on YouTube, the one with your name on the fretboard? Is the top mahogany? It sounds so sweet yet funky. Thank you, muchly!

Thank you for the most wonderful evening of music out at Edgefield tonight. You three were awesome! I remember my friend, Cindy Rietveldt, urging me to catch one of your concerts after you played at the Coffeehouse in Levenworth, what was it, 3 years ago? I'm so happy I finally got to hear you perform and am looking forward to seeing you the next time you're in Portland.
Best regards,

Hi Alice! I love that drawing of you on the napkin you have on here! I see you're playing in Portland tonight. Guess what? I'm in Portland!! Actually I'm in Vancouver, WA. but it's only about 20 minutes from McMenamins Edgefield, where you're playing tonight. So I wanted to ask you of course, if you'd allow me to come out there this evening and sit in with you for a few? It's just amazing that I've been in the Portland area twice now when you've had gigs here! Thanks Alice,
Sincerely, Sheldon

Saw your fabulous 7 pm, family-friendly show at the Triple Door last night. The show was particularly good, the music wonderfully tight, and I wanted to thank you all for having something open and available for all ages. My husband and I rarely have an event that we can take a 22-year-old college grad and an 8 year old to, and all enjoy. Please, please, consider more such shows - my youngest is wide-eyed and drummed the table throughout your show. Loved being able to let him experience live blues!! Nothing better.
Alice, you're wonderful. Thanks, and may the music keep flowing through you.

I am from the 60's, a musician from the past that had missed her. Your voice is amazing, and I would love to see you live. Arthritis has set in me unfortunatley, thus my playing became disabled. I still pick it up at times an d pluck around, but it's not like the days of being on stage and enjoying the fruits of your labor and seeing people enjoy the music. When you have a crowd of 4 to 8 hundred people in front of you listening and having fun... well never lose that memory and the feeling. I still like to write at times if not for anyone but myself I suppose but alice.. your the cream of my coffee... keep on going dear.

Alice - I caught your show at the Pantages on First Night.

You blew me away! Your lyrics moved me to tears several times. Seriously. I'd love to see a show that lasts longer than one where the venue needs to take forever for a soundcheck.

I played blues on my piano and most of 1/1/09 because of you.

It's been a long time since I heard someone's soul come out of their guitar and through their lyrics.

nelliewong - Thursday, January 1st, 2009 11:02 PM PST
Hi Alice, saw you at First Night last night; You are my new heroine! If you can keep rockin', I can still keep teaching kindergarten!

Hello Alice. I just found out about your music through an internet site that was hosting a Frank Zappa month-long celebration. Your music IMMEDIATELY spoke to me, like a precious jewel that I'd been missing for 40 years, then suddenly made itself known to me! How LUCKY I am to have discovered you and your music. Please keep me on your email list to alert me when you'll be playing in the SF Bay Area.

In any case -- Rock out and Alice, Rock ON!!
-Thank You,

Jan Wade - Monday, June 16th, 2008 9:11 PM PDT
Hi Alice,

My wife and I really enjoyed your set at the Edmonds Art Festival this past Saturday. The whole band was into it and tight. Your playing is like a master class in blues. Simple yet tastefully crafted. Someone said it doesn't matter how many notes you play, it matters when and how you play them. It's so great to hear a master at work.

We are going to try and make it to Ellensburg to hear your band and the rest of the show.

Jan and Moon Wade

Hi Alice,
small world, I got an email from Roger in KC who'd gotten an email from Marv in Winlock. Marv said you'd showed up in Winlock on your bike. Roger said he thought of me when he read that. Two years ago I signed up for Steve Kaufman's camp and didn't buy a plane ticket. Sent the guitar FedEx, hopped on one of the bikes, and made it from Tumwater to Nashville in 4 days. Nice to know there's another chick out there who rides with a guitar!
take care,

It was a pleasure to have your band as well as the others use Rex's drums and my bass rig - I told your bassman that he infused some fantastic karma into it. Thanks for sitting in with us, you add a dimension we've not had, and what an awesome dimension it is! When can we open for you again? Lets do the Tractor or the Triple Door!
Hope to play with you guys again soon! We all had a wonderful time!

Hey Alice,

It's nice to see your web presence...we know each other back in the early Berkeley Jabberwock days...I played with Country Joe and the Fish in '69-'70. I have a question for you. The version you did of "Follow Me Honey, I'll Turn Your Money Green" is very similar to the version my first folk group did in college...the guitar lick is th same. Where did you learn the song?

I was at a party last night and a lady mentioned 'Alice Stuart'. I said, "Would you say that again please, s-l-o-w-l-y. please?" When I heard it was you (not AL!) I nearly went into shock & told her how I used to live in the houdseboats in Sausalito, CA (72, 73) and went to see you every time you played the No Name Bar. I used to have FT Woman & Dreamin (on 33) and still have them on R to R. I have always wondered where you were and wouldn't you know it? Here you are lurking around in cyberspace! It turns out she's your neighbor, also plays and told me about your site. The girl I'm with now also went to the NNB back then but we didn't know each other. I think the world is getting smaller every day. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and I'll be ordering soon! I am so happy to find you again. What a rush !!!

Hi Alice,
I was looking for a version of Frankie and Johnee, something fast with energy to do live and I came across yours. Even though I'm doing something different, I love your music and writing. And playing for sure. I just did sound on a stage at FloydFest in Virginia and there was a women there who lives out in the wood w/o electricity. She had this old Guild guitar. Wow, she could really play it and sing too. She reminded me of you.
Much Peace and Kindness.
Check me out.

It's already been a a few months , but your CD release concert at the "Triple Door" was awesome. My friend is a fan of yours now.
Your calender lists July 13th as a Saturday , playing at the New Orleans Jazz/Blues Bar, but is it a typo ??? Are you playing on Friday the 13th?
Just want to make sure -

I really enjoyed your set last night. I was part of one of the earlier acts (Claes & Rollie) and was hopeful of advancing to the finals, but I wouldn't have felt the judging was fair if we had advanced in your place, although I thought we put in a very good set.

I wish you the best in the next round and I am confident that you will be selected to go on to Memphis.

By the way, we played together once at The Crystal Ballroom for Nick Ogilvie's memorial. I was a part of the Eagle Ridin' Papas with Johnnie Ward at that time.

Either way I only have to say that you and your band absolutely ROCKED! It's been a long time since I've heard or seen an act that was as good as you were! In a short period of time, I plan on making a purchase! Thanks again for showing me that music can still be fresh!

would you happen to be the same Alice Stuart who used to play at Sutro, Nevada in 1968 or so?

JJ - Monday, February 12th, 2007 5:41 PM PST
Alice, wow! Your music is awesome. I'm thoroughly impressed and love it! I'm going to buy all your stuu off Itunes. Please let me know when you're coming to New York and keep in touch--especially if you need a guitar player to back you. I'm now a big fan! Hope you had an easy trip home. JJ

Just wanted to let you know that you have traveled to China with me. While I'm living here for the next year and teaching English I'll be listening to Crazy with the Blues alot. It's one the four CD's I packed in my already overfull suitcase for pleasure listening. Thanks for producing such great music to enjoy worldwide! Carmen

I was telling Kirchen I saw you at the Freight and I guess he got tired of me raving about it, he said, "Send her a note." I got tired of waitin around for him to send me your address, so here I am at this web site thing, hoping you don't let this loose on the web page.

Anyway, I wandered in for the last half of the last set, towing 3 women who wanted to find out if you'd remember me after only 30 years. No surprise that the two roughly my age loved your stuff, but the third is an engineer, Google intern, a little too young to be my daughter, and she got it completely when I said Keith Richard has fallen out of a tree trying to be as hip as you. Which I'm glad you cleared up because I thought he was still just trying to be Blackie Farrell, who fell off his roof this spring.

So even if you can't remember the Crabs, I hope we can keep in better touch 'cuz I'm nuts about the way you're playing and singing.

Alice! I was fooling around with some freebie program that looks at sites that link to mine, and found Guitar Friday and was very impressed! But when I followed the link to, I was thrilled! I just wish we lived in the same town so we could play some! Love your music! All the best to you and your wonderful band!

Had never heard Alice until a local radio station (KVMR Nevada City, CA) played cuts from Triple Door... wow! With so many blues players doin' the same thing, it's so refreshing to hear someone who personalizes blues material to the extent that Alice does. It makes a huge difference in the "aliveness" and impact and soulfullness of the music! What a great discovery! Looking forward to checking her out live!

Alice I took my eye off the ball, and was unaware you had new product out. I have emailed our office to contact your record company to send us a promo. I recently in an interview told Robin Rogers she sounded like you; she imediately went out & bought a compilation with you on it, liked what she heard & thanked me for putting her on to you. Love the website sneakers. Take care, Billy Hutchinson Team Writer "Blues Matters" magazine UK

Heard 'I'm Goin to New York City' off your new Live CD on XM Radio Bluesville. Really like the hook and was looking to purchase the song for download. Any chance you will offer this capability via your website in the future?

Hi Alice, i just wanted to tell you we loved your recent show at the Triple Door in Seattle. I walk and exercise to your music, I just think you are AWESOME looking forward to another C.D. I have to say also that your rendition of the Johnny Cash song was so great. Thanks again, Melody
